The Government of Himachal Pradesh, on September 02, 2026, issued the Himachal Pradesh Road Infrastructure Protection (Amendment) Bill, 2026, further to amend the Himachal Pradesh Road Infrastructure Protection Act, 2002.
The following has been stated: -
•The Himachal Pradesh Road Infrastructure Protection Act, 2002 is amended to strengthen road protection and enforcement mechanisms.
•It introduces definitions for demand order, penalty, provisional assessment, restoration cost and seizure, and revises the authorities responsible for enforcement.
•New prohibited activities include damage from mining operations, traffic obstruction, interference with drainage/works, and physical damage to road infrastructure.
•Road infrastructure maps must be geo-coordinated, jointly authenticated and may be maintained electronically with digital signatures.
•New powers include restricting vehicle use, requisitioning police assistance, impounding abandoned vehicles/machinery/goods, and imposing a ₹2,000 per-day penalty, with disposal and recovery provisions.
