The Government of Punjab, on August 31, 2026, issued a notification pursuant to the Punjab Retail Investment and Modernization Policy, 2026, which was notified by the State Government on March 8, 2026.
The notification provides that the External Development Charges (EDC) paid by a retail enterprise covered under the Punjab Retail Investment and Modernization Policy, 2026 shall be utilised for development of the area where the concerned retail enterprise is located.
Accordingly, the measure links the EDC collected from eligible retail enterprises with development of the area in which such enterprises operate, in furtherance of the State’s Retail Investment and Modernization Policy.
