The Ministry of Finance (MoF) issued a Notification on September 14, 2026, under Section 10A of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007, specifying certain electronic modes of payment for which no charges may be imposed by banks or system providers.
The following has been stated:
The Central Government has specified the following electronic modes of payment:
Debit Cards powered by RuPay; and
Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions up to ₹2,000.
No bank or system provider shall impose, either directly or indirectly, any charge on a person making or receiving a payment through the electronic modes specified above.
Accordingly, payments made through RuPay debit cards and UPI transactions up to ₹2,000 shall be free from charges imposed by banks or system providers.
