The Government of Manipur on September 14, 2026, notified regarding the resolution passed by the twelfth Manipur Legislative Assembly.
The Legislative Assembly of Manipur has resolved to adopt the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Amendment Act, 2024 (No. 5 of 2024) in the State under Article 252 of the Constitution of India. The Amendment Act, enacted by Parliament and notified on February 15, 2024, initially applies to Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and the Union Territories, and may extend to other States upon adoption through a resolution of their legislature.
The Amendment Act aims to decriminalize provisions of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, thereby facilitating ease of doing business, and to streamline the process for nomination of Chairpersons of State Pollution Control Boards. Through its resolution, the Manipur Legislative Assembly has formally agreed to adopt these amendments in the State.
