The Ministry of Defence (MoD), on August 24, 2026, has published the draft Khadki Cantonment Building Bye-Laws, 2026 under Section 251 of the Cantonments Act, 2006. The draft proposes to supersede Notification No. 146 dated June 28, 1966, subject to savings for acts already done or omitted. The Bye-Laws are proposed to apply within the limits of Khadki Cantonment.
The draft sets out the regulatory framework for construction and building activities within the Cantonment, including provisions and definitions relating to access, accessory buildings, additions and alterations, advertising signs, air-conditioning, amenity spaces, architectural projections, apartments, applicants, architects, balconies, barrier-free facilities, basements, building height, built-up area, building lines and building envelopes, among other matters. An applicant must have legally valid occupancy rights over leased, old grant or private land for construction, reconstruction, addition or alteration.
These provisions are still in draft form and are not yet operative. Objections or suggestions may be submitted to the Cantonment Board, Khadki within 30 days from the date the Gazette copies are made available to the public, including through the specified email address. The Bye-Laws will come into force only upon their final publication in the Official Gazette by the Central Government.
