The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), on September 1, 2026, has notified the establishment of six revised/new Indian Standards, with the standards established with effect from August 28, 2026, pursuant to Rule 15(1) of the Bureau of Indian Standards Rules, 2018. The notification covers standards relating to chemical analysis of steel, household electrical appliances, iron ore pellets, aviation fasteners, mine cages and light conveyor belts.
The newly established standards include IS 228 (Part 37):2026 on determination of titanium content in steel; IS 302 (Part 2/Sec 24):2026 on safety requirements for refrigerating appliances, ice-cream appliances and ice-makers; IS 8625:2026 on crushing strength of iron ore pellets; IS 9748:2026 on metallic slide fasteners for aviation purposes; IS 10970:2026 on keps for mine cages; and IS 16384:2026 on determination of the relaxed elastic modulus of light conveyor belts.
For five of these standards, the corresponding earlier standards will remain in force concurrently until February 28, 2027, after which they are scheduled for withdrawal. These include IS 302-2-24:1994, IS 8625:1986, IS 9748:1981, IS 10970:1984 and IS 16384:2017. IS 228 (Part 37):2026 has no earlier standard listed for withdrawal and therefore has no concurrent withdrawal date specified.
