The Government of Manipur on September 14, 2026, issued the Manipur Panchayati Raj (Ninth Amendment) Act, 2026 to further amend the Manipur Panchayati Raj Act, 1994.
The following amendments have been stated:
In section 22 of the Manipur Panchayati Raj Act, 1994 (hereinafter referred to as the Principal Act), in sub-section (3), for the word “continue”, the word “cease” shall be substituted.
In section 79 of the principal Act, in sub-sections (1) and (2), after the words “Gram Panchayat”, the words and figure “or Panchayat Samiti, as the case may be,” shall be inserted.
In section 97 of the Principal Act, between the words “Zilla Parishad” and “and Gram Panchayats”, wherever they occur, the words and figure “, Panchayat Samiti” shall be inserted.
• In section 107 of the Principal Act, -
(i) in between the words “Adhyaksha or Up-Adhyaksha of the Zilla Parishad” and “and every Member, Pradhan or Up-Pradhan of a Gram Panchayat” the words and figures “and every Member, Pramukh or UpPramukh of the Panchayat Samiti” shall be inserted.
(ii) in between the words and figures “Member/Adhyaksha/UpAdhyaksha/” and “Pradhan/Up-Pradhan” the words and figures “Pramukh/Up-Pramukh/” shall be inserted.
