The Government of Punjab on September 09, 2026, has issued prohibitory orders restricting the sale and use of meat within the walled city of Amritsar, Sri Anandpur Sahib municipal limits in Rupnagar district, and Talwandi Sabo (Sri Damdama Sahib) in Bathinda district, which have been declared as Holy Cities of Punjab. The restrictions have been issued pursuant to the directions of the Home Affairs Department dated December 15, 2025.
The prohibition is effective immediately and applies to the specified areas. Any violation of the orders will be dealt with in accordance with the applicable laws and rules in force in Punjab.
