The Department of Agriculture, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh on September 01, 2026, issued the Arunachal Pradesh Apiculture and Honey Policy (AAHP).
The following has been stated:
• The policy aims to conserve native honey bee species and their habitats while promoting scientific, sustainable, and climate-resilient apiculture as a viable rural livelihood. The policy seeks to improve agricultural productivity through pollination, increase farmers’ income, create entrepreneurship opportunities for women and youth, and establish Arunachal Honey as a premium, quality, and traceable product for domestic and international markets. Key measures include conserving native bees such as Apis cerana, Apis dorsata, Apis florea, and stingless bees; protecting and planting bee-foraging flora; promoting bee-friendly farming and reducing indiscriminate pesticide use; training traditional honey collectors; and integrating apiculture education into schools and universities.
• The policy further provides for Apiculture Research and Training Centres, extension support through KVKs and State Departments, establishment of apiaries, bee villages and cooperatives, adoption of modern beekeeping technologies, colony migration across crop seasons, and development of honey collection, processing, grading, packaging and traceability facilities.
• It proposes transforming AAHP into the Arunachal Pradesh Bee and Honey Mission (ABHM), with inter-departmental coordination and convergence with schemes such as MIDH, NBHM, NBB, MSME and KVIB. The scheme also envisages financial assistance, subsidies, startup support, insurance, and credit facilities.
• Implementation will be overseen by a State Level Steering Committee chaired by the Chief Secretary, with the Agriculture Department as the nodal department and district-level committees for implementation and monitoring.
