The UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) on September 17, 2026, has issued a revised Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for updating names in Aadhaar, covering different name-change scenarios and the documents required for each case.
The following has been stated:
The SOP covers name corrections, addition/deletion of names, changes in name sequence, marriage/divorce-related surname changes, alias/ “urf” name removal, and complete name changes, with prescribed supporting documents and affidavits, where applicable.
The revised SOP comes into effect from the date of signature of the circular.
