The Government of Tamil Nadu on September 15, 2026, issued the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services (Amendment) Act, 2026, to further amend the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services Act, 2025.
The following has been amended, namely:
• The amendment modifies the Act by omitting clauses (c) and (n) of Section 2. It also amends Section 24(3) by removing the requirement that the concerned officer shall be “not below the rank of Station Officer.”
• A revised Section 31(1) places responsibility on the owner or occupier, individually or jointly responsible for a building classified under the Act, to provide prescribed fire prevention and life safety measures. In addition to the requirements under the Act and rules, such measures shall comply with the Tamil Nadu Combined Development and Building Rules, 2019, Oil Industry Safety Directorate guidelines, the Petroleum Act, 1934 and rules, the Explosives Act, 1884 and rules, other Government/relevant authority guidelines, and any other law in force.
