The Government of Andhra Pradesh on April 02, 2026, issued the Andhra Pradesh Fire Service (Amendment) Act, 2026, to further amend the Andhra Pradesh Fire Service Act, 1999.
The following has been amended, namely:
• The amendment act is deemed to have come into force from December 1, 2025. It updates key definitions and introduces provisions for Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures, Building Fire Safety Supervisors and qualified fire-safety agencies, while recognising Fire Services as Emergency Services for non-fire disasters.
• The Act revises the procedure for Provisional Fire NOC, Fire Safety Certificate and renewal, with prescribed timelines of 21 days for Provisional Fire NOC and 30 days for Fire Safety Certificate.
• It makes compliance with fire-safety measures a condition for building occupancy approval, requires owners/occupiers to maintain such measures, and provides for appointment of Building Fire Safety Supervisors in specified buildings.
• It also increases several penalties, permits declaration of State Disaster Response and Fire Services as a Technical Service, and replaces references to licences with Fire Safety Certificates.
