The Government of Madhya Pradesh, on September 17, 2026, notified the Madhya Pradesh Rajmarg (Sanshodhan) Adhiniyam, 2026, to amend the Madhya Pradesh Rajmarg Adhiniyam, 2004.
The following has been stated: -
•The Madhya Pradesh Rajmarg (Sanshodhan) Adhiniyam, 2026 updates the principal 2004 Act to modernize the management, development, and maintenance of state highways.
•It substitutes the original Preamble to explicitly incorporate provisions for user fee levies, betterment charges, road safety, and maximum efficiency for transport services.
•The amendment inserts new Sections 8-A and 8-B, granting the State Government the authority to levy user fees and enter into agreements with private or public entities for highway development and maintenance.
•Under these agreements, authorized private partners or agencies are empowered to collect and retain user fees based on specified rates and regulate traffic in accordance with Chapter VIII of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
•Additionally, it repeals the older Madhya Pradesh Highway Act, 1936, and the Indian Tolls (Madhya Pradesh Amendment) Act, 1932, while preserving the validity of prior notifications, fees, licenses, and concession agreements.
