The Ministry of Jal Shakti on September 28, 2026, notified regarding the Stakeholder Consultation on Emergency Action Plans for Enhanced Dam Safety at Lonavala and Bhushi Dams.
The following has been stated:
• The National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) held a stakeholder consultation on Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and emergency preparedness for Lonavala and Bhushi Dams in Maharashtra on September 27, 2026. The consultation reviewed the recent Lonavala flood incident, extreme rainfall risks, downstream safety, timely warning, communication, and emergency response mechanisms.
• NDSA advised the dam-owning agencies, Tata Power and Central Railway, to review and strengthen their EAPs based on recent incidents, identified emergency scenarios, extreme rainfall events and risks to downstream communities. NDSA, CWPRS and the dam-owning agencies also reviewed the cascading relationship between Bhushi and Lonavala Dams and undertook field inspections. The programme further focused on inter-agency coordination, early warning, emergency preparedness and sustainable dam safety management.
