The Transport Department, Govt. of Kerala on September 19, 2026, issued an amendment to the older notification no. G.O. (MS)No.16/96/Trans dated March 31, 1998, regarding the Motor Vehicle Tax Concession for Differently Abled Persons.
The amendment increases the eligible purchase value limit for motor vehicle tax exemption available to differently abled persons. The limit has been enhanced from ₹7 lakh to ₹15 lakh. The exemption applies to three-wheelers, invalid carriages, motorcycles and motor cars owned by differently abled persons for their own use.
The amendment gives effect to the announcement in Para 315 of the Revised Budget Speech for 2026–27. The earlier exemption limit of ₹5 lakh was increased to ₹7 lakh in 2018; the present amendment further raises it to ₹15 lakh.
