The Department of Labour Employment & Overseas Placement, Himachal Pradesh, on September 22, 2026, issued a notification regarding the exemption of Shops and Commercial Establishments from Working Hour Restrictions for 24×7 Operations.
The following has been stated: -
•The Himachal Pradesh Government has exempted all shops and commercial establishments from Sections 9 and 10 of the Himachal Pradesh Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1969 and Rule 11 of the 1972 Rules to promote 24×7 operations and ease of doing business.
•Employers must continue to comply with prescribed limits on working hours, weekly holidays, overtime, and employee safety, health, and welfare.
•Special conditions apply to women employees working night shifts, along with compliance with all other applicable labour laws.
•The exemption is effective immediately and will remain in force for one year from September 22, 2026.
