The Government of Gujarat on September 22, 2026, issued the Draft Gujarat Legal Metrology (Enforcement) (2nd Amendment) Rules, 2026.
The following has been stated: -
•The amendment introduces self-declaration-based registration for manufacturers, repairers and dealers of weights and measures and revises provisions relating to registration certificates, suspension and revocation.
•It introduces Improvement Notices for contraventions and provides for compounding action where such notices are not complied with.
•The penalty under Rule 24 is enhanced from ₹5,000 to ₹1 lakh, while related terminology is updated from “licence” to “Registration Certificate”.
•Schedule I is expanded to prescribe declaration requirements for commodities including LPG, CNG, liquid nitrogen, LNG, savouries, metal goods and textiles.
Any objection or suggestion may be given within 30 days.
