The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), on September 21, 2026, issued a public notice inviting comments, suggestions and objections on the Draft CERC (Indian Electricity Grid Code) (Second Amendment) Regulations, 2026. The draft proposes amendments to the existing Indian Electricity Grid Code Regulations, including new definitions relating to Central Hydro Generating Stations, congestion charges, default trigger dates and Renewable Energy Implementing Agencies.
The draft also proposes changes concerning interchange of power by Renewable Energy Generating Stations (REGS) and Energy Storage Systems (ESS). Entities seeking extension for the period of interchange of power would be required to provide reasons for delay, submit the request at least 10 days before the proposed start date, and keep the Regional Load Despatch Centre (RLDC) informed of monthly activities. RLDC may allow multiple extensions, subject to a cumulative extension of three months. Other amendments include reducing a specified period in Regulation 21 from seven to three and modifying the applicability threshold in Regulation 22 for certain generating stations.
The amendments are proposed to come into effect from the date of publication in the Official Gazette, except amendments under Paragraph 16(B), which are proposed to take effect from April 1, 2027. CERC has invited comments, suggestions and objections from stakeholders and interested persons up to October 21, 2026; late submissions may not be considered.
