Industry Specific ComplianceThe Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution (MoCAF&PD) on October 01, 2026, revises the Sugar Stock Holding Norms to Prevent Hoarding and Ensure Smooth Supply to Consumers during the Festive Season.

The Government has revised the sugar stock holding norms with effect from October 15, 2026, to November 30, 2026, to ensure adequate availability and curb hoarding and speculative accumulation. Sugar dealers shall not hold stock for more than 15 days from receipt and shall not hold more than 1,000 quintals at any time or place. A higher limit of 2,000 quintals applies to Kolkata and its extended metropolitan areas and Assam, considering regional supply and logistical requirements. The measure aims to ensure smooth movement of sugar through the supply chain and availability to consumers at reasonable prices.
