DGCA issued Draft Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) for Operation of General Aviation Aeroplanes

Industry Specific ComplianceThe Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on September 30, 2026, issued the Draft Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) for Operation of General Aviation Aeroplanes.

The following has been stated:

• The Draft governs the operation of Indian-registered aeroplanes engaged in general aviation, including private, corporate and State Government operations that are not commercial air transport or aerial work. The CAR prescribes minimum operational, equipment, and instrument requirements and is proposed to be effective from October 21, 2026, superseding the existing CAR dated April 13, 2022.  

• The requirements cover flight operations, operating minima, flight preparation and planning, fuel and alternate aerodrome requirements, dangerous goods, specific approvals, aircraft equipment, emergency systems, communication/navigation/surveillance equipment, maintenance, crew responsibilities, aircraft performance and operational limitations. Additional requirements under Section 3 apply to aeroplanes over 5,700 kg MTOM, turbine-engined aeroplanes, or aircraft with more than 9 passenger seats.

• Comments are invited on the Draft Operation of General Aviation Aeroplanes by October 29, 2026.
