Labour ComplianceThe Labour Commissioner, Gujarat, through a notification dated October 4, 2026, has announced the daily special allowance linked to the cost-of-living index for workers covered under specified employments under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, for the period from October 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027. 

The following has been stated:

Special Allowance – 46 Scheduled Employments: A daily special allowance of ₹72.50 has been prescribed for 46 scheduled employments, ship-breaking and sweeping and cleaning work, in addition to the basic minimum wage rates fixed by the Government. 

Special Allowance – 6 Scheduled Employments: A higher daily special allowance of ₹158.50 has been prescribed for six specified scheduled employments, namely brick manufacturing, zari industry, ready-made garments, salt industry, tobacco and bidi manufacturing, and agriculture.

Applicability Period: The above special allowance rates shall apply for the period from October 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027 and are payable in addition to the basic wage rates prescribed for the respective employments.
