The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) on October 01, 2026, issued the Indian Boiler Regulations, 2026.
They shall come into force on October 06, 2026.
The following has been stated:
• The Regulations prescribe comprehensive technical and safety requirements for the design, manufacture, construction, erection, inspection, testing, certification, operation, maintenance, repair and alteration of boilers and boiler components.
• The Regulations establish requirements for materials, welding, non-destructive testing, pressure testing, stamping and certification, with inspections by authorised Inspecting Authorities and Competent Persons at different stages. They also provide a framework for recognition and authorisation of Inspecting Authorities and Competent Persons, including qualification, experience, examination and certification requirements.
• The Regulations also prescribe detailed inspection procedures during manufacture and erection, in-service inspection requirements, repair/alteration controls, and prescribed forms and certificates.
• Competent Persons shall verify materials, welding procedures, heat treatment, NDT, and pressure tests, while manufacturers are required to provide advance notice for stage inspections and ensure calibrated testing equipment.
