The Labour Department, Govt. of Punjab on October 02, 2026, notified regarding permission to operate Shops and Establishments 24×7.
The Government has exempted all registered shops and establishments in the State, permitting them to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the year. The exemption is subject to compliance with the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013, applicable Labour Department conditions for employing women in night shifts, the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986, and the applicable provisions of the Code on Wages, Code on Social Security, Industrial Relations Code and Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code.
The exemption may be revoked after giving the establishment an opportunity of being heard for violation of these conditions or other provisions of the Act. It will remain effective until further orders or specific withdrawal and may be reviewed by the Punjab Government at any time.
