EHS ComplianceThe Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) on September 11, 2026, issued circular on Safety Checks for IEFCV in Mobile Pressure Vessels.

Following recent road accidents involving Internal Excess Flow Check Valves (IEFCVs) becoming dislodged from the coupling of mobile pressure vessels, resulting in product leakage and subsequent fire/explosion, PESO has issued safety instructions for flammable and toxic mobile pressure vessels licensed in Form LS-2 under the SMPV(U) Rules, 2016. During Rule 18 and Rule 19 certification and periodic inspection, competent persons/TPIAs are advised to verify the proper fitting of the IEFCV and its coupling welded to the tanker shell using calibrated ring and plug gauges.

If the IEFCV or coupling threads are found unfit for use, the component must be rejected and replaced with a new one at a PESO-approved pressure vessel fabrication shop, with the replacement recorded in the relevant Rule 18/Rule 19 certificate. Oil Marketing Companies are also advised to visually inspect IEFCVs before filling compressed gas into mobile pressure vessels and stop filling if any defect or improper fitting is observed.
