Labour ComplianceThe Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) on October 07, 2026, issued Frequently Asked Questions on the revision of the EPFO Statutory Wage Ceiling.

The following has been stated: -

•The EPFO outlines the official decision to raise the statutory wage ceiling for EPF, EPS, and EDLI coverage from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 per month, effective September 17, 2026.

•This policy change expands mandatory social security coverage to over 51 lakh additional employees earning up to ₹25,000 monthly, bringing statutory thresholds in line with rising wage levels across India.

•Under the new framework, both employers and employees contribute on wages up to the revised ceiling, resulting in increased overall retirement savings, enhanced pensionable base benefits, and higher employee accumulations.

•To facilitate smooth compliance, employers can process September 2026 contributions through a single Electronic Challan-cum-Return (ECR) due by October 15, 2026, with provisions allowing any delayed employee-share deductions to be deferred to the next payroll cycle.

•While employee take-home pay may show a slight nominal deduction adjustment, the entire employee contribution along with matching employer funds remains secure, tax-advantaged, and highly liquid through withdrawal options.

The detailed notification is given in the document below.
