The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (MoFAH&D) on October 12, 2026, notified the Animal Feeds and Feed Ingredients (Quality Control) Order, 2026.
The following has been stated: -
•The Ministry of Animal Husbandry and Dairying has mandated compliance with the applicable Indian Standards and the use of the BIS Standard Mark under Scheme-I of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018, for mineral mixtures for supplementing cattle feeds (IS 1664), dicalcium phosphate for animal feed grade (IS 5470), and common salt and cattle licks for animal consumption (IS 920).
•The implementation date for general enterprises is April 01, 2027, while micro and small enterprises must comply from October 01, 2027, and July 01, 2027, respectively.
•Goods intended for export are exempt from the order.
•The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) shall act as the certifying and enforcing authority, and contraventions shall attract penalties under the BIS Act, 2016. It shall come into force on October 12, 2026.
