The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) on October 07, 2026, issued the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (Gujarat Electricity Grid Code) Regulations, 2026.
The following has been stated:
• These Regulations shall come into force from October 07, 2026.
• These Regulations shall supersede the Gujarat Electricity Grid Code, 2013, dated July 16, 2013.
• They apply to Gujarat’s intra-state power grid, while the Indian Electricity Grid Code issued by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission continues to govern the inter-state transmission network. The Code establishes a common regulatory and technical framework for planning, developing, maintaining and operating the state electricity grid in a secure, reliable, economical and efficient manner, while facilitating coordination and competition in electricity generation, transmission and supply.
• The Regulations provide for system planning and development, connectivity conditions for entities seeking to connect to the grid, and operational procedures for maintaining grid stability and system integrity. They define the technical and procedural responsibilities of the State Transmission Utility, transmission licensees, generating companies, distribution licensees, the State Load Despatch Centre and other grid users.
• The framework is intended to ensure coordinated transmission planning, appropriate connection standards, reliable grid operation and compliance with applicable technical requirements, while aligning Gujarat’s state-level arrangements with the Indian Electricity Grid Code, 2023, and other applicable Central Electricity Regulatory Commission regulations, subject to state-specific requirements. The updated Code reflects the need to accommodate technological developments and the increasing integration of renewable energy into the state grid.
