The Paradip Port Authority (PPA) on October 13, 2026, issued a notice regarding the Restriction on Entry of Unseaworthy Vessels and Compliance with Mandatory Maritime Safety Protocols at PPA.
PPA has issued a stern warning to shipping agents, vessel owners, charterers, and concerned agencies against bringing poorly maintained or unseaworthy vessels into port waters. Shipping agents and charterers shall ensure that vessels are seaworthy, fit for the intended voyage, and compliant with applicable international maritime conventions, including SOLAS, MARPOL, and STCW. Agents shall verify recent survey reports, machinery status, and structural condition and disclose all known defects to the Marine Department before arrival. PPA reserves the right to deny port entry, suspend pilotage, or order defective vessels to leave port limits. In cases involving incidents caused by neglected maintenance or concealed defects, the responsible parties may be held liable for rescue and salvage costs, port delays, and environmental cleanup expenses, besides facing legal action and possible blacklisting.
