The Ministry of Commerce & Industry (MoC&I) on October 21, 2026, issued a notification regarding the release of the Core Industries Index for September 2026.
The following has been stated: -
•The Office of the Economic Adviser, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, released the provisional Index of Core Industries (ICI) for September 2026, with base year 2022–23, on October 21, 2026.
•The ICI recorded year-on-year growth of 7.9%, compared with 5.9% in August 2026 (final), driven by growth in iron ore (18.4%), electricity (11.4%), coal (10.7%), refinery products (10.3%), cement (9.8%) and steel (4.9%).
•Fertilizers, natural gas and crude oil recorded negative growth during the month. Cumulative ICI growth for April–September 2026 stood at 5.1%, compared with 2.5% in the corresponding period of the previous year.
•The final August 2026 index was revised from 119.2 to 120.4, and the October 2026 provisional index is scheduled for release on November 20, 2026.
