The Government of Kerala on October 12, 2026, issued the Kerala Motor Vehicles Taxation (Amendment) Bill, 2026 to further amend the Kerala Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, 1976.
The following amendments have been stated:
• In section 11 of the principal Act,-
(a) in sub-section (1), after the words “safe custody of that vehicle” the words “in the yard” shall be inserted;
(b) after sub-section (1), the following sub-section shall be inserted, namely:-
“(1A) If a vehicle is seized and detained and kept in the safe custody in the yard under sub-section (1), before release of such vehicle from the yard under the provisions of this Act, removal fee and storage fee, as the case may be, shall be charged on such vehicle, in such manner and at such rates, as may be prescribed.”.
