The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) on October 08, 2026, has issued revised lists of Red Category and Orange Category industries and non-industrial operations, updated as of October 8, 2026. The lists classify activities based on their pollution potential and identify the applicable categories for different industrial operations, including manufacturing, chemical processing, power generation, mining, pharmaceuticals, waste recycling, healthcare facilities, hotels and other establishments.
The revised classifications include several activity-specific thresholds and conditions, particularly for wastewater generation, fuel usage, production capacity and pollution-control measures. Notable updates include the classification of hotels and resorts based on room capacity, with specific conditions for establishments using cleaner or gaseous fuels; parks other than zoological parks generating wastewater of 5 KLD or more are included in the Orange Category, while those generating less than 5 KLD do not require Board consent. The lists also cover activities such as LPG bottling plants and stainless-steel tank and vessel manufacturing.
Industries and establishments should review the revised lists against their actual operations, capacity, fuel type and wastewater generation to determine the applicable pollution category and consent requirements. The document also specifies conditions for certain activities, including compliance with CPCB environmental guidelines for compressed biogas plants and prescribed wastewater-management measures for eligible hotels and resorts.
