The Government of Gujarat, on October 23, 2026, notified the Gujarat Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures (Amendment) Rules, 2026, further to amend the Gujarat Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Rules, 2014.
The following has been stated: -
•The Government of Gujarat has amended the Gujarat Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Rules, 2014, to revise definitions and prescribe minimum standards for fire prevention, life safety and fire protection in buildings and premises.
•The amendments cover access, exits, compartmentation, smoke management, fire extinguishers, alarms, sprinklers, hydrants, firefighting water storage, signage, lifts and other fire safety systems.
•The rules also empower fire authorities to require additional safety measures and permit the Government to relax or modify specified requirements in certain cases.
•Temporary structures such as mandaps, shamiyana, tents and pandals must comply with IS 8758:1993 and applicable regulations under the Act.
They shall come into force on October 23, 2026.
