The Government of Mizoram, vide Notification on July 29, 2026, has notified the Mizoram Code on Social Security Rules, 2026 under Sections 154 and 156 of the Code on Social Security, 2020. The Rules supersede the Mizoram Code on Social Security Rules, 2023, subject to the protection of actions already taken or omitted before such supersession. The Rules were pre-published on May 18, 2026, and no objections or suggestions were received within the prescribed period.
The Rules extend to the whole of Mizoram and prescribe the framework for the administration of social security provisions, including the constitution, membership, tenure and functioning of the Mizoram Unorganised Workers Social Security Board. They also define key terms relating to social security benefits, contribution periods, funds, cess administration and electronic submissions. The Chief provisions include a maximum three-year term for non-ex-officio Board members, eligibility for re-nomination for a maximum of two terms, and representation requirements for workers, government departments and women.
Although the Rules have been published in the Mizoram Gazette Extraordinary dated July 30, 2026, Rule 1(3) provides that they will come into force on a date appointed by the State Government through a separate notification in the Official Gazette. Accordingly, the commencement date should be verified separately before determining their operative applicability.
