The Government of Meghalaya on October 22, 2026, notified regarding the Offers Purchase Incentives, Tax Waivers and Scrappage Benefits under the Meghalaya Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy, 2026.
Meghalaya Govt. has notified the Meghalaya Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy, 2026, which will remain in force for three years from the date of notification in the Official Gazette and supersede the 2021 policy. The policy provides purchase incentives for eligible electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers, subject to prescribed conditions, vehicle-category limits and fund availability. Incentives include ₹25,000 for private electric four-wheelers and ₹50,000 for commercial electric four-wheelers, with ex-factory price ceilings of ₹1.75 lakh for two-wheelers and ₹35 lakh for four-wheelers. Eligible electric vehicles registered in Meghalaya during the policy period will also receive exemptions from motor vehicle tax and registration fees, subject to Transport Department conditions.
The policy further introduces scrappage incentives ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹2 lakh for eligible buyers replacing qualifying BS-IV or older vehicles scrapped through authorised Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities. It promotes the development of EV charging and battery-swapping infrastructure, facilitates private investment through the Invest Meghalaya Portal and encourages green mobility enterprises to access applicable industrial incentive schemes. The Commissioner of Transport has been designated as the Nodal Agency for implementation, while a State Level Committee will oversee incentive claims, infrastructure proposals, monitoring and grievance resolution. Eligible buyers can apply for purchase incentives through the Meghalaya EV Subsidy Portal in accordance with the operational guidelines.
