The Health Department, Govt. of Manipur on October 27, 2026, notified the prohibition of manufacture and sale of Gutkha, Pan Masala, and Chewing Tobacco Products.
The following has been stated:
• The Government has prohibited the manufacture, storage, transport, distribution and sale of gutkha and pan masala containing tobacco or nicotine, as well as chewing tobacco products such as Chaap Tobacco, Pure Tobacco, Khaini and scented/flavoured tobacco, under any name or form.
• The prohibition also covers other products containing tobacco or nicotine, whether packaged or unpackaged, sold separately or in separate sachets in a manner that facilitates mixing by consumers.
• The order has been issued in the interest of public health and remains in force for one year from the date of issuance, throughout the State of Manipur.
