The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on October 30, 2026, has rationalised the periodicity of Know Your Customer (KYC) reviews for Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) to simplify compliance requirements. Accordingly, the existing KYC review periodicity of one year has been extended to two years, while the three-year periodicity has been extended to eight years. However, the KYC review periodicity for SWAGAT-FI FPIs will remain unchanged at 10 years, and existing relaxations applicable to GS-FPIs will continue.
Further, the requirement for separate confirmation of changes in previously submitted information at the time of continuance of registration has been discontinued. These measures aim to reduce repetitive compliance requirements, rationalise procedural obligations and improve ease of doing business for FPIs. The revised provisions shall come into effect from December 1, 2026.
