The following has been stated: -
•The Union Territory of Lakshadweep Administration has published the draft Lakshadweep Excise Rules, 2026, framed under Section 99 of the Lakshadweep Excise Regulation, 2026, to establish a comprehensive framework for excise administration.
•The document sets regulations for the import, export, transport, possession, and sale of liquor and excisable articles, establishing designated authorities such as the Excise Commissioner to manage licensing and compliance.
•It outlines statutory limits on personal liquor possession, strictly prohibits advertising, and mandates license standards, including digital payment integration, safety protocols, and a minimum premises area.
•Additionally, the rules incorporate island-specific environmental and public health safeguards, requiring licensees to operate bottle buy-back schemes and directing a portion of excise revenue toward de-addiction and public health services.
•Stakeholders and the public are invited to submit their comments, suggestions, or objections regarding the draft rules within 30 days.
