The Government of Manipur on October 29, 2026, issued notification amendments to Section 13 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, regarding Delayed Registration of Births and Deaths.
The following has been stated: -
•The Ministry of Home Affairs has notified the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Act, 2026 (No. 12 of 2026), amending Section 13 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, effective October 01, 2026.
•Under the amended Section 13(3), delayed registration of births or deaths reported after one year but within two years of occurrence requires an order from the District Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate or an authorised Executive Magistrate.
•Where the delay exceeds two years, registration requires an order from a Judicial Magistrate of the First Class.
•The amendment revises the authority competent to approve delayed registration of births and deaths.
