Industry Specific ComplianceThe Government of Tamil Nadu, on November 3, 2026, exercising powers under Section 10 of the Tamil Nadu Cinemas (Regulation) Act, 1955, has amended the Tamil Nadu Cinemas (Regulation) Rules, 1957, through an amendment to Form C under the conditions of licence.

The amendment revises Condition 14-A to permit licensees of permanent and semi-permanent cinemas to conduct up to six shows per day between 6:00 AM and 2:30 AM the following day for one week from the release of a new Tamil movie and on local festival days, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Where the film's duration does not permit six shows within the prescribed time window, the number of shows must be restricted to the maximum that can be accommodated after providing the required intervals between successive shows, subject to the conditions specified in the Rules.

The amendment has come into force with effect from November 3, 2026. Cinema licensees in Tamil Nadu must ensure that show schedules comply with the revised timings and conditions.
